A General Note on Modding AE

In general, the techniques used to mod AE files are very similar to those used to mod vanilla SF4, and most of the tutorials from the vanilla wiki will carry over just fine. However, the most obvious difference is that Capcom no longer uses the familiar *.emz bundles to consolidate things (except for vfx, which are still bundles). This means that all components of these bundles, including *.cos.emz (*.obj.emo, *.shd.emo, *.nml.emb and *.bsr) *.col.emz (*.obj.emm and *.col.emb) and *.cmn.emz (*.skl.emo, *.skl.emm, *.obj.ema, *.fce.ema, *.cam.ema, *.bac and *.bcm), are all just floating around in the characters' folders. This makes it a little easier for us to deal with things, insofar as we no longer need to use Kensou's SF4tool to create emz indexes (or create them from scratch, for that matter), and it's easier to hex-edit things since we won't have to search around inside a giant emz bundle for the specific sections we want to modify.

How to Get Skeletons into 3D Studio Max (credit: sensibeat)

I use emg2smd, then I import the smd in Blender and I export it as a FBX.
Like that I have the skeleton in place in 3ds max (units have to be set to centimeters).
When I'm done in 3ds max, I export the scene as a smd with this plugin: http://www.chaosincarnate.net/cannonfodder/cftools.htm
I import it in Blender and I export it as a smd (slightly different format/coordinates);
Then I can use smd2emg on this smd.
